The Critical Care Wing was completed in December 2007, thanks to
more than $25 million in donations by individuals and organizations
in our community (government funding covered the remaining costs).
The Critical Care Wing is a state-of-the-art facility that includes
a state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit and 17 new operating rooms
equipped with modern technology.
Visit the links below to see some of the highlights of our community’s
generosity:
The issue
- Overcrowded facilities had not been renovated since 1980.
- Doctors and nurses forced to use outdated equipment.
The solution
- Build a new, $75-million Critical Care Wing that offers the
most advanced equipment, modern facilities and will attract top
medical specialists.
The results
- 17 state-of-the-art operating suites, six of which are be equipped
for minimally invasive surgery (MIS). (Read
about the amazing benefits of MIS).
- New Intensive Care Unit Unit that is four times the size and
features natural light and modern technology for our sickest patients.
- The Ottawa Hospital Pain Clinic, a dedicated space with modern
equipment to treat patients suffering from cancer-related and
other chronic pain.
- A larger Post-Anesthetic Care Unit where patients recover after
surgery.
