The Ottawa Hospital Foundation Launches 2006 Lottery
Early Bird Ticket Sales Deadline is February 14
(OTTAWA, ONTARIO) – Just three weeks after
thieves stole $40,000 worth of kitchen cabinets, The Ottawa Hospital
Foundation’s dream home opened on time for today’s launch
of the 2006 Ottawa Hospital Lottery.
This year’s grand prize dream home is worth more than $1.2
million. The opening of the home had been put in jeopardy on January
16, when thieves broke into the nearly finished home and stole items
such as kitchen cabinets and boxes of tiles.
For the first time ever, The Ottawa Hospital Lottery will have
three Early Bird draws. The first draw features a stunning Gianne
Versace necklace and a Brookstreet Resort ultimate getaway. The
deadline to buy tickets for the first Early Bird draw is midnight
on Tuesday, February 14.
The second Early Bird includes a vintage 1969 Mustang and a trip
to Las Vegas to attend a NASCAR race. The third draw is for a 2006
Infinity M35X, a Toronto shopping getaway and 2,000 extra Lottery
tickets.
“The Ottawa Hospital Lottery is a crucial fundraiser for
us, bringing in much-needed funds to build a new Critical Care Wing
that will help our sickest patients,” said Susan Doyle, President
and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. “And every dollar
stays right here in our community, allowing you to have a direct
and positive impact on health care in Ottawa.”
The Lottery, now in its 10th year, has more than 3,700 prizes worth
over $2.5 million to be won. Prize highlights include four Ford
vehicles; five European cruises and a Grand Canyon vacation; a once-in-a-lifetime
whale-watching adventure in the Sea of Cortez; more than $210,000
in jewellery; tickets to the red-hot Ottawa Senators; and much,
much more. Tickets are priced at $100 and only 43,000 will be sold.
“When you buy a ticket for The Ottawa Hospital Lottery, not
only do you have an excellent chance to win great prizes, you are
also making a real difference in the health care of your family
and friends,” said Dr. Jack Kitts, President and CEO of The
Ottawa Hospital.
Proceeds from this year’s Lottery will help fund a number
of improvements at The Ottawa Hospital, allowing it to upgrade outdated
facilities and purchase new equipment. The key project supported
by Lottery funds is the new Critical Care Wing, currently under
construction at the Hospital’s General Campus. When complete,
the Wing’s features will include:
- 17 state-of-the-art operating rooms equipped with the latest
surgical equipment.
- 32 Intensive Care Unit beds to offer more space and better treatment
for our sickest patients.
- A new Chronic Pain Management Centre to support patients with
long-term, disabling pain.
Brochures with full contest details will be delivered to Ottawa
households this week. Orders can be placed by mail using the order
form provided in the brochure; by telephone at (613) 783-9550 or
1-800-853-6955; in person at the Civic, General, or Riverside campuses;
