Mayor, Business Leaders Challenge Public to "Run for a Reason"
at the 2007 Ottawa Race Weekend!
The Ottawa Hospital’s annual Race Weekend
fundraising campaign is on!

(OTTAWA, ONTARIO) – A who’s who of Ottawa’s
business and community leaders made a mad dash for the finish line
this morning at the launch of the 2007 MDS Nordion Ottawa Hospital
Race Weekend Challenge. The event, held at the Old Coliseum at Lansdowne
Park, kicked off the fundraising part of the Ottawa Race Weekend
in support of patient care and research at The Ottawa Hospital.
Taking part in today’s friendly footrace were Ottawa Mayor
Larry O'Brien; Steve West, CEO
of MDS Nordion; Steve Spooner, CFO of Mitel; Hicham
Adra, Senior Vice-President at CGI; Jim Orban,
Publisher of the Ottawa Citizen; and Laurie Graham
from TELUS.
Together they issued a challenge to all of Ottawa: Run or walk
at this year’s Ottawa Race Weekend and raise funds for an
area of The Ottawa Hospital that is meaningful to you or where funds
are needed most.
Also on hand to cheer on the runners were the Hon. Jim Watson,
Ontario Minister of Health Promotion; Dr. Jack Kitts, President
and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital; Susan Longbottom, President of the
Ottawa Race Weekend; and Jackie Holzman, Chair of the Board of the
Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
“One in two people in our region will be touched by The Ottawa
Hospital,” said Mr. West of MDS Nordion, title sponsor of
the 5K and 10K races, as well as of this year’s hospital fundraiser.
“What better way to complete your Race Weekend experience
than by running for a reason that will help so many people in our
community?”
Every year, thousands of runners and walkers participate in the
Ottawa Race Weekend, which takes place on May 26 and 27. This year,
The Ottawa Hospital Foundation will reimburse the race registration
fee to any team member who raises more than $150 for The Ottawa
Hospital.
