(OTTAWA, ONTARIO) - The Ottawa Renegades today
donated $1,000 to The Ottawa Hospital Foundation in support of the
Ottawa Regional Women’s Breast Health Centre (WBHC) at The
Ottawa Hospital. The funds will be put toward the purchase of a
biopsy device used to extract abnormal breast tissue for further
examination.
The football club raised the funds through their Lady Renegades
Football 101 seminars – half-day sessions conducted by Renegades
players and aimed at teaching women the basics of football. Seminars
were held on April 24 and May 8, 2004, with part of the $40 registration
fee being donated to the WBHC.
“The Ottawa Renegades club is proud to give something back
to our fans by supporting important local causes like the Women’s
Breast Health Centre,” said Tim Fleiszer, Ottawa Renegades’
defensive tackle. “The Football 101 seminars are a great way
to connect with our female fans and ensure their future health at
the same time.”
“Over the past three years, The Ottawa Hospital Foundation
and the Ottawa Renegades have built a strong partnership in support
of The Ottawa Hospital,” said Carl Martin, Vice-President,
Communications and Marketing, The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. “Today’s
donation is a wonderful example of how this organization, and the
players within it, are dedicated to helping us build a better hospital
for our community ”
The Ottawa Regional Women's Breast Health Centre at the Civic Campus
of The Ottawa Hospital was established in 1979 and receives some
15,000 visits a year. It provides the community with a unique model
of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research and education. The
WBHC prides itself on being compassionate and understanding, treating
not just the abnormality in the breast, but the person as a whole.
With its 1,130 beds, The Ottawa Hospital is one
of the largest teaching hospitals in Canada. It provides comprehensive,
high-quality, patient-focused health care services, in English and
French, to over 1.5 million residents of Eastern Ontario, and specialized
