Winners of the 2007 Ottawa Hospital Lottery Announced

Foundation thanks community for “stepping up to the plate” for cancer care

(OTTAWA, ONTARIO) – The Ottawa Hospital Foundation today announced Terry Ansari of Ottawa, (ticket number 28169), as the lucky grand prize winner of the 2007 Ottawa Hospital Lottery.

The announcement of the grand prize winner marks the official close of this year’s Lottery. Despite a slow start, the Lottery was able to generate a healthy return for cancer facilities and care at The Ottawa Hospital.

“I’m very impressed with how The Ottawa Hospital’s friends in our community – including former patients, suppliers and the media – stepped up to plate,” said Susan Doyle, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. “They reached out to their friends and contacts, they handed out Lottery brochures, they bought an extra ticket or they simply talked up the importance of The Ottawa Hospital to anyone who would listen. Thank you, Ottawa!”

Mr. Ansari now has a tough choice to make – he will have to choose from:

  • Option #1, worth more than $1 million and featuring a fully furnished European-styled town home in the Byward Market, a 2007 Mercedes SL550 convertible, a 7-day European canal cruise and $300,000 cash
  • Option #2, worth more than $1 million, which includes a 3,200 square-foot country home on a golf course near Kemptville, a 2007 Eddie Bauer Edition Ford Explorer, a South African safari, and $350,000 cash
  • Option #3, also worth more than $1 million and featuring a 2007 luxury Winnebago, a 2007 Dodge pick-up truck, and $500,000 cash
  • Or take the $800,000 cash

Other lucky winners of this year’s lottery include:

  • Tim Fletcher of Orleans (ticket number 021406) won an ultimate home makeover from M-Y- Home worth $150,000.
  • David Short of Ottawa (ticket number 014725)won a PGA fantasy golf vacation for four in Ponte Verda, Florida, worth over $27,500.
  • Orville Lahey of Kemptville (ticket number 021238)won a Napa Valley wine tour for four worth over $16,500.
  • Angela Silver of Nepean (ticket number 028085) won an Eco Adventure in Yellowstone National Park for two worth over $14,300.

Other prizes awarded in The Ottawa Hospital Lottery include 500 rounds of golf for two at The Marshes, 1,500 pairs of Bluesfest tickets, and 22 fitness packages from the Ottawa Athletic Club.

A complete list of lottery winners will be published in the May 8 editions of The Ottawa Citizen and Le Droit. The names of the winners will also be posted on The Ottawa Hospital Lottery Web site at www.ottawahospitallottery.com

Proceeds from this year’s Lottery will support cancer care at The Ottawa Hospital. New facilities include the new Cancer Assessment Clinic at the General Campus, and new operating rooms currently being built in the Critical Care Wing (the majority of surgeries to be performed there are cancer surgeries).
