OTTAWA HOSPITAL FOUNDATION UNVEILS TREMENDOUS 20-20 CAMPAIGN ACHIEVEMENT

(OTTAWA, ONTARIO) – The Ottawa Hospital Foundation has exceeded its 20-20 Campaign goal of raising $20 million in 20 months for the expansion of The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre at the General Campus.

During an event held earlier today at the new Cancer Centre, the Foundation announced more than $24.5 million had been raised in support of the Centre’s expansion – the largest in its history.

“The goal for the 20-20 Campaign was ambitious and the timeline was incredibly tight,” said Susan Doyle, President and CEO, The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. “The unbelievable result of this campaign has shown us yet again just how committed and generous our community is.”

Many local business and community leaders joined forces and played a key role in the success of the Campaign. The 20-20 Campaign Cabinet was lead by co-chairs Yves Tremblay and Steve West, and honourary co-chairs Roger Greenberg and Rabbi Reuven Bulka, who all worked tirelessly throughout the Campaign.

The success of the Campaign has enabled The Ottawa Hospital to:

  • Centralize nine radiation machines at the General Campus.
  • Add 15 new chemotherapy chairs, for a total of 50.
  • Offer more natural light, a comfortable environment, and access to outdoor areas to patients, families and staff which will help the recovery process.

The expansion of the Cancer Centre also received a boost from government funding. Every dollar that was donated to the 20-20 Campaign triggered a $2.30 government contribution. This resulted in an $80.5 million investment in cancer care at The Ottawa Hospital.

The Ottawa Hospital is a multi-campus, academic health sciences centre, serving 1.2 million residents of Ottawa and Eastern Ontario, both in English and French. It provides care for more patients than any other hospital in Canada, and boasts specialty centres in cancer, heart, kidney and vision care, as well as rehabilitation services. For more information, visit The Ottawa Hospital Web site at www.ottawahospital.on.ca.

The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre at the General Campus has undergone the largest expansion in its history. The Ottawa Hospital is the hub of cancer care in our region and this year alone, more than 21,000 patients will rely on its fully integrated outpatient centre for treatment. This represents more than 190,000 patient visits.

The Ottawa Hospital Foundation’s mission is to inspire and enable people to support the highest quality health care at The Ottawa Hospital and lifesaving research at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. For more information, visit The Ottawa Hospital Foundation Web site at www.ohfoundation.ca.
