General Campus Emergency Department

The challenge

The Ottawa Hospital’s General Campus Emergency Department provides 24-hour emergency diagnostics, assessment and care services to approximately 160 patients a day. When it became clear that an expansion was needed, a capital expansion project was launched.

The solution

  • The construction of the expanded Emergency Department is now complete. The $47-million renovation project doubled the capacity and added:
    more treatment rooms and larger bed bays to provide patients with the privacy and comfort they need;
  • four family quiet rooms as well as a special separate area for cancer patients experiencing complications;
  • the latest tools and resources to help staff treat more patients and provide the best possible care; and
  • new reverse airflow isolation rooms to help prevent the spread of infection and disease.

How you can help

The construction may be complete, but your help is still needed to purchase equipment. Delivering excellent care takes more than the best physicians and nurses – our health-care workers need the proper tools to do their vital work. The Emergency Department needs several items that it either doesn’t own or the existing equipment has become outdated or unusable. The items are only available thanks to the generosity of donors in the community.
