Canada’s First Research Chair in Men's Health
The Ottawa Hospital’s Division of Urology ranks among the best in North
America.
Our team of 11 urologists lead the way in groundbreaking research that will
have a significant impact on patients and their quality of life.
The division cares for more than 35,000 patients a year. Most are men seeking
treatment and monitoring for urologic, prostate and other cancers; infertility;
sexual dysfunction and its complications; and many other health issues.
This group of urologists is incredibly committed to their patients. They continue
to look for better treatments and new surgical procedures to minimize the side
effects of cancer surgery. Their dedication to finding better ways to care for
their patients has led to the campaign to create a Research Chair in Men’s
Health at The Ottawa Hospital.
First of its kind
The Research Chair in Men’s Health in the Division of Urology will be
the first of its kind in Canada. The new Chair will help the Division of Urology
attract and retain top surgeons, and accelerate the groundbreaking research
that offers hope to thousands of patients.
“This Chair will help us translate our basic research successes into
improved patient care more quickly,” says Dr. Ron Gerridzen, Chief of
the Division of Urology.
Community support is key
The Division of Urology is asking the community to support this endowed Chair.
A goal of $1.5 million has been set for community donations.
Physicians in the divisions of Urology and Surgery have already
made significant pledges toward this Chair.
Ron Zambonini, former CEO of Cognos and former Co-Chair of the Foundation’s
very successful Legacy Campaign, has agreed to serve as Honorary Chair of this
campaign.
