Parkinson's Research (Partners Investing in Parkinson Research)

The challenge

Parkinson’s disease affects more than 100,000 Canadians, including more than 8,000 in the Ottawa area alone. And that number is expected to double by the year 2050. More research is needed to better understand and treat this devastating disease.

The solution

A group of investment advisors from the Ottawa financial community formed Partners Investing in Parkinson Research (PIPR). Co-chaired by Richard Shantz and Andrew Frank of RBC Dominion Securities, PIPR is seeking support from friends, colleagues and the entire community to raise funds to help researchers discover better treatments for patients with Parkinson’s.

PIPR has set a goal of raising $1,000,000. Since 2009, PIPR has raised more than $500,000 for Parkinson’s research. All funds raised by this dedicated group go directly to the Parkinson Research Consortium, which is working on a number of innovative treatment strategies, such as the development of new drug treatments and targeted gene therapy that could help stop the progression of this debilitating disease.

How you can help

You can support the PIPR team during the Ottawa Race Weekend (May 26 and 27, 2012). Members of the team will participate in the Run for a Reason Challenge and raise funds for this important initiative.

You can also support Parkinson’s research by making a donation directly to the Foundation. You can donate online, download our donation form or call us at 613-761-4295.
