On Dec 9, 2010 The Ottawa Hospital Foundation was pleased to celebrate IT/NET employees for their ongoing support of The Ottawa Hospital and continued commitment to health care in our community.

To commemorate IT/NET’s generosity and support, a Chemotherapy Room in The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre was named in honour of IT/NET employees.

Since 2004, IT/NET employees have donated more than $140,000 to purchase life- saving equipment for the Civic Campus Emergency Department, the General Campus Intensive Care Unit and The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, including the Centre for Innovative Cancer Research.

With this recognition, the community will be reminded every day of how deeply IT/NET employees care about the community and the people who live in it. On behalf of all the patients whose lives will be touched by IT/NET’s generosity, thank you!

Talk about commitment! This year, IT/NET’S own Alex Beraskow showed tremendous support for The Ottawa Hospital by shaving his head for cancer research.

IT/NET employees gave generously to this important fundraising campaign, which will benefit ongoing research initiatives at the Centre for Innovative Cancer Research (CICR).

This year’s IT/ NET campaign will raise funds for the new Centre for Innovative Cancer Research (CICR) at the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, at the General Campus.

IT/ NET’s goal this year is to help equip the CICR by purchasing a Cell Spinner.

Cell Spinner Function: Purifies cancer cells growing in the laboratory.

Benefit: Before new treatments can be tested in patients, they must be tested in cancer cells growing in the laboratory. A cell spinner is a crucial piece of equipment that allows researchers to purify cancer cells, so that they can see how well they are killed by different therapies.

From 2004 to 2009, IT/NET and its employees have raised over $134,000 for the purchase of lifesaving equipment for critical and cancer care at The Ottawa Hospital and The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre.

Each Fall, IT/NET employees rally their fundraising efforts around the purchase of a piece(s) of equipment and together with their colleagues, contractors, friends and family they fill out pledge forms, sign up for payroll deductions, raffle, compete and have lots of fun reaching for their goal. These efforts have resulted in the purchase of the following pieces of equipment for The Ottawa Hospital and The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre:

  • Tourniquet
  • Stryker Stretcher Chair
  • Bair Hugger
  • Bronchoscope
  • Transport Ventilator
  • Chemotherapy Chair
  • Blanket Warmer
  • IV Pole with a pump
  • Centrifuge

On behalf of all Ottawa Hospital patients and staff, thank you so much for your leadership and generosity! You have made a real difference for your community and your hospital.
