Thermo Fisher Scientific made a difference by donating new equipment to the Hospital. Over three years, the company donated a -80 C freezer, a Cryostat machine and a Synergy Multi-Reader to the University of Ottawa Eye Institute at the Hospital—together worth over $92,000.
These machines are welcomed by Eye Institute scientists like Dr. Cathy Tsilfidis, who is developing a novel gene therapy that holds great promise for people suffering vision loss caused by glaucoma, diabetes and hypertension.
With a new vision research centre soon to open at the General Campus, community support will be instrumental in helping scientists find new treatments and possible cures for age-related vision disorders.
